Magnificent and progressive fate is a documentary movie having as its main characters Renato Curcio and the ‘Ergastolo di Santo Stefano’, a panoptic structure located in the namesake island of the Pontine archipelago, indeed just little more than a rock in the sea. The Panopticon, a term coined by the English jurist and philosopher Jeremy Bentham, is a word made up of pan- that in Greek means “all” and optikon that means “to see”, refers to the “capacity to see all” at a glance, i.e. a physical and social architecture of an invisible power. St. Stephen Prison is the first facility in the world, in which this idea was implemented (1795), hence the physical setting of the documentary and it represents, along with the island itself, the metaphor, from which the analysis made by the main character, Renato Curcio, of the so called Digital Revolution unravels. The storytelling about the magnificence of the effects the new technologies may have on us is pervasive: Technology makes us smarter or even makes us long for a new type of technologic superman. Least popular is instead the critical thinking about the impact that all this actually has on the human nature itself as we have understood it until now.

HERSTORIES hopes to trace a path through women’s collective narratives. What we intend is to make a wide-ranging story of women’s lives, where the history of each one of us is also that of all the others. Taking its starting point from a series of films, it tries to stimulate a dialogue with the spectators, making them actresses in their own stories. The stories converge in an audio report and a short film where each participant is encouraged to use the creative tools most congenial to her. The Storytelling, telling each other, can improve our existence with the knowledge, the feeling of being part of an active collective. Talking about the past and the present to imagine together a better future, more equal, supportive. The project, planned originally during the spring of 2020, has been suspended and postponed because of the restrictions following the Covid-19 emergency and now it is virtual&real. We invite you to tell your stories. You are invited to send us, keeping the focus on the relevant themes, your personal stories in an audio recording ( max 2 minutes), your photos & drawings (max 5) which says something about you, of your house, of your favourite places, of your life, one of your poems or a short novel. These materials will be published on our social media channels and on our website and will be part of the audio documentary and video-collage. Together! Indeed, up to now, she has been through a lot: people have adopted her, some have sold her, others have changed her name, and all of them, have abandoned her on the street again and again. But, now that life has come full circle, and she is back where she has started, all alone, the intense but short-lived moments of her ephemeral happiness are her only comfort. And in a life full of highs and lows; pain and joy; companionship and loneliness, love is all that matters.

May I Be Happy reveals the significance of "mindfulness" practice in transforming the lives of young people. Through poetic cinematography and sequences of teachers leading sensitive or boisterous practices to kids from different backgrounds, the film brings awareness to the benefits of mindfulness as a way out of violence and suffering, and as an attainable solution for younger generations. Covering varying approaches to mindfulness by a range of San Francisco Bay Area programs, May I Be Happy reminds us of children's natural capacity for wellbeing, resilience and happiness.
