It is our last screening of the season! Inspired by the early years of two Russian rock stars from the 1980s, Kirill Serebrennikov's film pays tribute to the Leningrad underground scene just before the dawn of perestroika. Premiered in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Magnificent and progressive fate is a documentary movie having as its main characters Renato Curcio and the ‘Ergastolo di Santo Stefano’, a panoptic structure located in the namesake island of the Pontine archipelago, indeed just little more than a rock in the sea. The Panopticon, a term coined by the English jurist and philosopher Jeremy Bentham, is a word made up of pan- that in Greek means “all” and optikon that means “to see”, refers to the “capacity to see all” at a glance, i.e. a physical and social architecture of an invisible power. St. Stephen Prison is the first facility in the world, in which this idea was implemented (1795), hence the physical setting of the documentary and it represents, along with the island itself, the metaphor, from which the analysis made by the main character, Renato Curcio, of the so called Digital Revolution unravels. The storytelling about the magnificence of the effects the new technologies may have on us is pervasive: Technology makes us smarter or even makes us long for a new type of technologic superman. Least popular is instead the critical thinking about the impact that all this actually has on the human nature itself as we have understood it until now.
Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo, better known as Pippa Bacca, was a 34 years old Italian artist. She crossed 11 countries involved in wars, hitchhiking with another Milanese artist, Silvia Moro, both wearing a wedding dress. This was a performance for peace, trust and hoping to prove that if you rely on others, you’ll receive good things only. After travelling many roads, the two artists decided to split for a while in Istanbul, planning to meet again in Byblos. Pippa left then, alone, and nobody heard from her again.
While stuck at a wedding in Palm Springs, Nyles meets Sarah, the maid of honor and family black sheep. After he rescues her from a disastrous toast, Sarah becomes drawn to Nyles and his offbeat nihilism. But when their impromptu tryst is thwarted by a surreal interruption, Sarah must join Nyles in embracing the idea that nothing really matters, and they begin wreaking spirited havoc on the wedding celebration. "It’s tough for a film to be heady and hilarious, but Palm Springs does it beautifully." David Sims - The Atlantic

"In reality, almost nothing of the things I care about remained standing." Luigi Pintor, one of the most important Italian left-wing intellectuals, tells himself and thinks aloud, with the filter of a very particular sensitivity, on the facts, experiences, ideas, emotions that have marked Italian history from the war to the present day. But also on the gloomy prospects that loom over our future and the few hopes that oppose it. A long video interview, the only one in existence, in which the thread of reflection and memory unfolds following a series of key words that underlie the plot of Pintor's thought: the search for a critical conscience which, distrusting systematic thinking, is constantly feels tested.

HERSTORIES hopes to trace a path through women’s collective narratives. What we intend is to make a wide-ranging story of women’s lives, where the history of each one of us is also that of all the others. Taking its starting point from a series of films, it tries to stimulate a dialogue with the spectators, making them actresses in their own stories. The stories converge in an audio report and a short film where each participant is encouraged to use the creative tools most congenial to her. The Storytelling, telling each other, can improve our existence with the knowledge, the feeling of being part of an active collective. Talking about the past and the present to imagine together a better future, more equal, supportive. The project, planned originally during the spring of 2020, has been suspended and postponed because of the restrictions following the Covid-19 emergency and now it is virtual&real. We invite you to tell your stories. You are invited to send us, keeping the focus on the relevant themes, your personal stories in an audio recording ( max 2 minutes), your photos & drawings (max 5) which says something about you, of your house, of your favourite places, of your life, one of your poems or a short novel. These materials will be published on our social media channels and on our website and will be part of the audio documentary and video-collage. Together! We are sorry but all the seats for the lab are already booked. We hope that for the new edition everything will back to normal!

Detour is a non-profit organisation based on the voluntary work of its members and everything that comes in is immediately reinvested. For more than 20 years we have been going along on just our own strength, without ever chasing or receiving support from either private or public institutions for the daily running of our activities, always looking only at the quality of our programme of activities and establishing a relationship of trust and empathy with our members. Well, we have to tell you truthfully: this time we are running the risk of not being able to continue and soon we will be at the point of no return Your contribution has been and will be crucial to try to resist and will help to defend one of the last bastions of independent cinematography in our city. The friendship, esteem, and generous support you have shown us so far have been simply extraordinary! We will publish a collection of some of the most touching messages that accompanied your donations. Thanks to your contributions, we have reached the first milestone and this will allow us to pay essential rents and utilities related to the prolonged period of interruption of the activity, avoiding the imminent risk of being buried under the weight of the accumulated debts. However, the blanket of uncertainty lowered on future scenarios, the impossibility of setting aside a quota for summer fees, the awareness that a "phase 2" will involve us, among the last in order of time, by a partial and quota-authorisation reopening, consequent to the adoption of burdensome and complex sanitation measures, requires us to keep our guard high. We are asking you to choose one of the proposed options set out in our special crowdfunding campaign.
LUCKY follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist and the quirky characters that inhabit his off the map desert town. Having out lived and out smoked all of his contemporaries, the fiercely independent Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self exploration, leading towards that which is so often unattainable: enlightenment. Acclaimed character actor John Carroll Lynch's directorial debut "Lucky", is at once a love letter to the life and career of Harry Dean Stanton as well as a meditation on morality, loneliness, spirituality, and human connection.
Named "Neuf", after her position in her mother's litter, a little mixed-breed dog with a big heart and a cute, heart-shaped nose recounts the memory-laden story of her life after a terrible hit-and-run accident. Indeed, up to now, she has been through a lot: people have adopted her, some have sold her, others have changed her name, and all of them, have abandoned her on the street again and again. But, now that life has come full circle, and she is back where she has started, all alone, the intense but short-lived moments of her ephemeral happiness are her only comfort. And in a life full of highs and lows; pain and joy; companionship and loneliness, love is all that matters.

Everybody is scared of the Russians, who are believed to be a capricious lot. Everybody, except Christine.
May I Be Happy reveals the significance of "mindfulness" practice in transforming the lives of young people. Through poetic cinematography and sequences of teachers leading sensitive or boisterous practices to kids from different backgrounds, the film brings awareness to the benefits of mindfulness as a way out of violence and suffering, and as an attainable solution for younger generations. Covering varying approaches to mindfulness by a range of San Francisco Bay Area programs, May I Be Happy reminds us of children's natural capacity for wellbeing, resilience and happiness.
Hundreds of thousands of Turkish cats roam the metropolis of Istanbul freely. For thousands of years they’ve wandered in and out of people’s lives, becoming an essential part of the communities that make the city so rich. Claiming no owners, the cats of Istanbul live between two worlds, neither wild nor tame –and they bring joy and purpose to those people they choose to adopt. In Istanbul, cats are the mirrors to the people, allowing them to reflect on their lives in ways nothing else could.
