State and Commonwealth governments have signed a new bilateral agreement under which WA will join the other states and territories and operate under the national disability insurance agency from July next year. “I am pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached between the Commonwealth Government and Western Australia for our state`s membership in the nationally provided National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Christian Porter, Commonwealth Minister for Social Services, said the bilateral agreement shows that both governments are committed to the NDIS` key principles of choice and control, giving people with disabilities access to the support they need, no matter where they live. The Commonwealth will cover 100 per cent of the administrative costs and any cost overruns under the new agreement. The estimated savings for the crown are $1.3 billion over the next 10 years.
