Inghilterra, metà degli anni Sessanta. Frammenti di vita di 3 ragazze della working class alla ricerca di svago e divertimento: Rube, Sylvie e Eileen. Flirtano nei pub, ballano il twist, indossano le minigonne e chiacchierano con i ragazzi a lavoro. Scene girate dal vivo nelle case, nelle strade, nelle fabbriche, nei pub. Ken Loach porta sugli schermi della BBC tematiche sociali quali famiglia, amicizie, amori, sesso e aborto. 

Rube, Sylvie and Eileen are three Clapham factory girls up for a good time: flirting with lads in the pub, practising the twist and swapping tales with the other women at work. But will the misfortunes and tragedies that befall them break their seemingly irrepressible spirit?
This ground-breaking drama saw Ken Loach take the filming out of the studio and onto the very streets depicted in the story. With an immediacy only ever seen in current affairs programmes, the portrayal of ordinary people’s lives had an authenticity seldom witnessed in television drama.

The Wednesday Play è una serie televisiva inglese trasmessa sulla BBC da ottobre 1964 a maggio 1970. I film che la compongono sono stati apprezzati critica e dal pubblico per aver saputo rappresentare la società contemporanea, portando l’attenzione del grande pubblico a temi sociali scomodi e delicati che non erano mai stati affrontati sugli schermi televisivi prima di allora.

The Wednesday Play is an anthology series of British television plays which ran on BBC1 from October 1964 to May 1970. The series gained a reputation for presenting contemporary social dramas, and for bringing issues to the attention of a mass audience that would not otherwise have been discussed on screen.
